little goals count too.
earlier in the week i attended a workshop at the spotted goose
a small gathering of momas and momas to be were led by
lovely lady, april, singer/songwriter.
surely i recommend her music.
came just in time as i needed some new, fresh car tunes.
over the eve we did 3 journal entries.
each with it's own small direction.
it was so interesting to hear the other women's perspective
when it comes to motherhood, career, measuring success, moments
and just plain life.
i titled this
"little goals count too"
because i walked away wanting to remember that.
i walked away feeling refreshed and grateful to have shared the evening
with some fabulous ladies,
but from my entries that was one of the most poignant feelings that surfaced.
our first entry was focused on a recent event and describing it.
second was to focus on what is working in our lives rather than rip into
what ISN'T working.
the last was the 10 most memorable moments to date.
after writing i realized that it would be beneficial for me to remind myself
that things don't happen over night and celebrating the small things is important.
even if it's accomplishing sticking to your budget for a month
or simply sharing an evening with your significant other.
i found it easy to write about the momentous events as they stick out more and overwhelmed me with emotions of love and joy.
but found i overlooked those pure littler moments.
this exercise also made me realize how far i have come in the contentment department.
i have come to terms with slowing down much more so than before
and i've allowed myself to check things off later and see that
life. still. goes. on.
and it's good. still.
but that is not to say that i don't
all too often listen to my negative self talk:
"my blog needs so much work and should/could look better"
"where is my job going and what do i want from a career"
"my maternity leave is a piece of crap"
when in reality it is an easy fix to focus on what IS working:
"my blog is taking baby steps, but still coming along. i have time to improve it."
"i have tremendous flexibility in my job, a team i like, & i do the best i can."
"i am lucky to have some time with my little & i am blessed with
supportive friends and family."
i encourage you all to do this on your own.
no rules, no boundaries.
just write.
and then focus on the positive.
because more than likely stuff IS working.
i hope we can do this again soon.
