vacationing [with toddlers]

ahh, the beach. we love the beach and had a wonderful time away in Hilton Head.
...Can't wait to return.

our family, my sister's and my parents were blessed to share a family vacation at the beach. the weather was glorious, minus some rain the first day. while it's always hard to share space with multiple people, over all it went well and no major headbutting ensued.

I stole some hi-lites about the kiddies, written by my mom:

Josie- has an extra stomach for ice cream. Used to live in HHI with Poppi Booboo a long long time ago. Likes to swim naked and walk barefooted. Painted every one's toe nails.

Stella- leech to Moma. Belly laugher at Josie. Loves to give kisses. Vocabulary sky-rocketed. Explorer. Can become over-stimulated. Likes to rough house.

Dal- Strong as an ox; ridiculous strength. Always happy. Likes to be in and out of booster seat. Loves wooden fish in PawPaw and Grammie's room. Splasher!

after a week and 4 days on the road, i learned a few things while traveling with a toddler:

1. my tot doesn't understand why she has to stay restrained in a car seat when she repeatedly told us:
 "all done" "out" and "up"
2. small hotel room stays are apparently more interesting than 4 bedroom houses. when in doubt, grab an ice bucket, lock box buttons and land phones.
3. my tot doesn't sleep well in the night on vacation.
4. if there are other sick toddlers in the same house, my tot will end up sick too.
5. pack the book Stella, Queen of the Snow on all trips in order to re-read 23,564,345,754 times.
6. as much as i hate to admit it, my child does better with routine.
7. my child doesn't love car rides, and neither do i (but we made it!)
8. the act of "laying out" doesn't really exist with a small child.
9. always bring an extra diaper and wipes to the beach. or when in doubt, find someone else on the beach with a small child and ask... then borrow.
10. small island ER's look like bad nursing homes.

more pictures to come. i'm tired, see #3....

You captured her essence, and as always with humor.
